Your workplace is where you spend about half of your day at, sometimes even more. A clean office means a healthy working environment so you don’t have to walk into a room of clutter, dust and germs every morning. Although you might have cleaning staff assigned, each individual has a duty to support in keeping the place clean. Ultimately, you will be the ones working at the office and hence it is your responsibility to keep it clean and presentable at all times. So here are some easy tips to follow.
- De-clutter the workspace
It is easy to get your office cluttered and messy with the excessive amounts of paper, files and other stationery. What most of you end up doing is shoving all unwanted stuff in a store room while keeping your desk tidy. This may look like a good solution, however it is very temporary. It might encourage the spread of rats and insects. So rather, throw away all unwanted stuff and make sure you keep the storeroom neat and tidy too. A tidy environment increases productivity while keeping it disease free.
- Clean the floors
Most companies clean floors once a week. However, floors are the dirtiest of all and hence need to be cleaned every morning. Vacuum your office carpet tiles and mop the tiled floors. You need to clean every nook and cranny, no matter how hard it is to reach. The most common spaces that are left out are the corners of the floor, behind and under furniture. You can even consider rearranging the furniture from time to time so that you can reach the hard spots.
- Do not eat at your desk
It is essential that you have a separate area to have your meals. If you eat at your desk, you will surely spill some on your desk or keyboard and this will attract rodents. Also, if you don’t clean the trash every day, you might leave food waste in the trashcans overnight, causing disgusting smell and disease. If you have no choice than to eat at your desk, keep some disinfected wipes with you so that you can clean the desk and keyboard afterwards.
- Empty the bins regularly
It should be part of your daily cleaning routine to take out the trash every evening. No matter what’s in it, food or stationery, it needs to be taken out before you close for the day. Also, maintain a good waste disposal system; dispose food, stationery, glass etc. into separate bins since in most countries, this is a legality.
